Destiny Quest or "the DQ app" as we call it at Phillips Elementary, can be used in the classroom, as well as, during library time. In my opinion, 2-5 grades should be signing on to DQ at least once a week. Participants will be shown how to navigate all of the DQ options for students and teachers. These options include:
1.) Viewing the top 10 most checked-out books.
2.) Viewing the most recently added books to their school's library.
3.) Putting checked out books on hold.
4.) Building a personal favorite book list so you can see which are available for check-out.
5.) Writing book reviews.
6.) Performing a variety of searches for text and website.
7.) Gathering research from a variety of sources in a variety of formats. (Text, Video, Audio).

Nearly everyone carries a camera, via their phones, with them every waking moment. And nearly everyone seems to be putting them to use. In 2017, it is estimated that as many as 1.3 trillion photos were taken. This workshop will discuss how to put some of those photos to use in order to promote our schools and the work in our classrooms. Topics will range from why this matters, how to make sure people see your photos, avoiding trouble, and some photography 101 tips to start taking better pictures.

Reading Outside of the Box!
“Reading means getting meaning from text. The essence of reading is a transaction between the words of an author and the mind of the reader, during which meaning is constructed.” What does this mean for our students who are unable to read grade level materials independently?

This session will explore text readers and how they can impact a student’s learning in the classroom setting. We will determine which students could benefit from a text reader and the impact we have discovered for DMPS students. We will identify the difference between independent reading levels and grade level reading as well as explore strategies on integrating text readers into your classroom activities for students who need that support.

Gather Evidence and Give Students a Voice with Padlet
Padlet is an "old" tool with new features. Schools can use padlet to collect and publish evidence of student learning, give students a voice and allow for teacher and student feedback. Padlet is a free tool used by teachers worldwide. Teachers of younger students might use padlet to collect student reflections, short student presentations, and to show parents and guardians how much (and how profoundly) their children are learning.
