Destiny Quest: It's More Than Just a Library Catalog!

Destiny Quest or "the DQ app" as we call it at Phillips Elementary, can be used in the classroom, as well as, during library time. In my opinion, 2-5 grades should be signing on to DQ at least once a week. Participants will be shown how to navigate all of the DQ options for students and teachers. These options include:
1.) Viewing the top 10 most checked-out books.
2.) Viewing the most recently added books to their school's library.
3.) Putting checked out books on hold.
4.) Building a personal favorite book list so you can see which are available for check-out.
5.) Writing book reviews.
6.) Performing a variety of searches for text and website.
7.) Gathering research from a variety of sources in a variety of formats. (Text, Video, Audio).

Reading Outside of the Box!

“Reading means getting meaning from text. The essence of reading is a transaction between the words of an author and the mind of the reader, during which meaning is constructed.” What does this mean for our students who are unable to read grade level materials independently?

This session will explore text readers and how they can impact a student’s learning in the classroom setting. We will determine which students could benefit from a text reader and the impact we have discovered for DMPS students. We will identify the difference between independent reading levels and grade level reading as well as explore strategies on integrating text readers into your classroom activities for students who need that support.

Using MAP Reports in Elementary

Many teachers want to know how to support students in meeting MAP growth goals but feel that the reports become overwhelming and feel unsure about how to impact their scores. In this session learn to use the "Next Generation Reports: Student Profile" to target specific needs by creating "learning paths" , setting goals, and finding trends in classroom needs. Teachers will plan action steps that will impact student growth by narrowing the focus on the highest area of need. Example goal setting documents will be shared with attendees. This interactive presentation would be appropriate for k-5 teachers or instructional coaches. You will be accessing MAP reports and exploring how to create learning paths with guided support.
